Area Law Enforcement
Roughly fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement say they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then found multiple other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state early analysis suggest the substance was most likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; authorities are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to solve the case" and have asked to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking political figure stated the incident made him without words and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the death of nine victims by a gunman targeting people of migrant background in February 2020.
