Whenever a prominent awards ceremony draws close, one notices an outcry for the addition additional classifications to recognize unsung work and satisfy the passions of followers with niche passions.
Another commentator made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, which is someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward since similar to blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand remains most pressing above others. The demand is this: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and typically start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason movie academies don’t do it. However, it represents a necessary evil in the world of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.
For the full spectrum of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to compete fairly, specific award classifications remain vital.
Current Gaming Award Categories
Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these six categories successfully include many game types, allowing placement for most games within them.
Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Think about these outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: building puzzles in a particular game, intense tile-matching of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. Which classification works among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.
Recognition Challenges
There are dozens outstanding logic titles released every year that have no home in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive Indie races.
- One classic puzzle game received no recognition completely in 2014
- Another creative title missed out during that ceremony
- Well-received sorting experience got ignored recently
- Just some puzzle games barely qualified for niche award types
Value of Brain-Teasers
Commonly they're small games, but the art of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles rank among the most-played games worldwide continuing this trend for an extended period.
The iconic tile-matching title competes with well-known building titles for the title of highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, and engaging with almost every other genre.
Recommendation and Reasoning
Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent so many good games out.
And to reiterate, these represent titles that otherwise have no home at major gaming awards. Puzzle game makers are working at the demanding boundary of video game design, producing among essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay generations.
